The Washington based ethics monitor, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), filed letters of complaint with several federal agencies against the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) for various lobbying and campaign violations.  On February 18, 2009, CREW submitted voluminous materials to the Department of Justice, Internal Revenue Service, Secretary of the Senate, and Clerk of the House.

Specifically, CREW complained that ANCA engaged in prohibited activity as a charitable organization (IRS 501(c)(3)), violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), while also skirting the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA).  Please  click here for a copy of the complaint, and here for the initial evidence.

CREW's action was widely reported in the United States and Europe.  ATAA President-Elect Gunay Evinch, a Fulbright Scholar on Armenian terrorism and the Armenian allegation of genocide, commented to the media that ANCA appears proud to represent the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) political party, also known as Dashnagtzoutiun.  For a report on Dashnak by the first Prime Minister of Armenia, published by the Armenian Information Service in 1955, click here

Evinch also reminded that ARF's terror wing, the Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide (JCAG), along with the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA), had committed over 200 bombings that killed over 70 and seriously injured over 550 civilians, and caused hundreds of millions of dollars of damage in the United States, Europe and Australia.

Evinch pointed out that ANCA's former Chairman, Mourad Topalian, had in recent years been convicted of weapons and explosives violations that the FBI connected to several JCAG terror acts on American soil.  Please see, ATAA's report on Armenian terrorism, and click here for ATAA's Victim Impact Statement in the criminal sentencing of former ANCA Chairman Topalian.

In line with ARF's foreign policy, ANCA takes an active role in directly supporting anti-Turkish legislation and the campaigns of politicians who work against U.S.-Turkish relations (www.anca.org).
