Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is accepting applications for its 2011 TCAdvance Scholarship Program through Friday, June 17, 2011.
The TCAdvance Scholarship Program was established in 2007 to support American students of Turkish and Turkic heritage who pursue a career in public and international affairs, law and communications. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, civic engagement, particularly active participation in Turkish American community affairs, as well as individual leadership qualities. Since the program's inception in 2007, 48 Turkish American students have been awarded the TCAdvance Scholarship.
This year, TCA is honored to announce a new TCAdvance Scholarship designation: The TCAdvance-Robert C. Byrd Memorial Scholarship. The TCAdvance-Robert C. Byrd Memorial Scholarship is a tribute to the legendary Senator who championed strong U.S.-Turkish relations throughout his career. Senator Byrd passed away in June 2010, after representing West Virginia in the U.S. Congress for 57 years. Starting this year, outstanding Turkish American applicants from the 13 Appalachian states will have the honor of being recognized as TCAdvance-Robert C. Byrd Memorial Scholarship Awardees.
The application deadline for TCAdvance Scholarships is Friday, June 17, 2011. The scholarship recipients will be announced in July and scholarships will be awarded on October 29, 2011.
